Preparing for your first appointment
Preparing for your first weight loss surgery appointment can feel overwhelming. Knowing what to expect and how to prepare helps you get the most from your consultation and take confident steps toward treatment.
What to bring
- Your Medicare card
- Private health insurance details
- A referral letter from your GP or specialist (unless already sent)
- A copy of any scans
- An up to date list of medications and known allergies
When do I arrive?
Please arrive a few minutes before your appointment as our receptionists will need to check you in and a new patient registration form will need to be completed.
Your Consultation
For new patients, please allow up to an hour for the initial consultation session. This generally allows sufficient time to discuss the condition and review any relevant investigations. In some instances, complex conditions require a longer consultation or can unexpectedly run late. Further appointments will cover any additional needs, re-discuss surgical options and management, review investigations and review the multidisciplinary team management, preparing you for surgery and long term management.
Bringing along a family member or friend can be very useful to help recall the information discussed. If anything remains unclear after the consultation or you have further questions, feel free to contact us and make an additional appointment to discuss your condition further.
At the end of your initial consult you will receive further additional information via an email.
Your surgeon will correspond with your referring doctor and make any appropriate referrals following your consultation.
Cancellation of appointments
Please notify us as early as possible if you are unable to attend your appointment.
